Industry quiz #02: Indies

Name three of the larger independent record labels operating in the UK

In addition to the major record companies, there are thousands of independent record companies – which are simply record companies or record labels that are not owned by one of the three majors.

Some indie record companies also own and operate multiple labels, so the Beggars Group owns and operates 4AD, Matador, Rough Trade and XL. Some indies operate under a single label brand.

Some indie record companies employ lots of staff and have offices in multiple countries. Some indies are much smaller and some are run by a single person. Some key indies with operations in the UK include:

BMG
Beggars Group
Cherry Red
Cooking Vinyl
Domino
Ninja Tune
Secretly Group
Warp
